History

Elves lived in many regions of the world before humans began to spread out across the planet. They tended fields and forests, explored the wonders of the Earth, and established temples which acted as schools to teach the young and meeting places to gather for celebration. As the humans began to move into the Eastern regions, some clans accepted them in with open arms, while others retreated into the forests and mountains, never to be heard from again. At first, the human farmers and hunters lived alongside the elves, both leaving one another alone. But over time, some clans met with devastating ends as humans were often greedy and would destroy that which they could not possess. Many more clans would fall or simply disappear over the centuries. Clan Tyr'urdrenn was one that chose to disappear into the mountains, watching humanity from a safe distance as their monarchs and cities rose and fell through the ages.

The Tyr'urdrenn temple soon grew into a village, a home and training facility for those elves that were rounded up from fallen clans. Lumena was born after the clan's relocation, and knew little of the outside world until she was older. As a child, she stood out from most other children. While many possessed magic tied to earth and water, she caused things to burst into flames. Clan elders knew they had to train her quickly, and she was placed into the care of a wise old fire elf, the only other left in the small clan. Soon the clan consisted of nearly a hundred elves, and the modern age of mankind was beginning. During the human's second world war, some remaining clans were forced out when the Japanese military began building hidden installations within the forests and mountains. The intrusion affected some dwarves in the area as well, who took it upon themselves to blame the elves for leaving. No blood was shed, but small skirmishes ensued until the dwarves settled deeper into the mountains, never to be heard from again.

Over the last few centuries, the Tyr'urdrenn clan observed that not all humans were to be sneered at and ignored, and some even possessed latent magical abilities. Emissaries were sent out, to search for these specially gifted humans. The humans were brought back, willingly, and taught to use their abilities while learning to live with nature instead of forcing nature to live with them. Modern day Japan has only two Elven clans left: Clan Tyr'urdrenn and Clan Dwin'mitore, the Moon Walkers. Many elves from these clans spend most of their time wandering about the human cities and towns, living seemingly normal lives, while watching and waiting for the right person to cross their path. They return home for annual festivals and celebrations, and to guide those special humans (and other creatures they find) to learn and foster their otherwise overlooked abilities.

Lumena was curious from the moment she met her first human. With her rounded ears and strange way of speaking, it took her some time to warm up to her, but soon they became friends. Both had mischievous natures, and got along well, especially when it came to sneaking away from the temple. As with all good things, their friendship could not last, as humans had considerably shorter lifespans than the elves of the east, and soon Lumena found herself alone and isolated once again. When it became common practice for those of her clan to venture out into the human towns, she was among the first to volunteer, and never looked back. She gets into her fair share of trouble, playing the part of a vigilante from time to time, but her identity remains intact. Using her disguise magic to color her hair and hide her ears, she blends in as a normal human with little trouble.
